Total Points Scoring

Races in Washington State are run using the TOTAL POINTS system of scoring, with the exception of a few special events. Under this system every rider has to race a minimum of 3 times. A rider is scored in each of the three rounds they race when they cross the finish line. A rider receives 1 point for a first place in his MOTO, 2 points for a second place finish, 3 points for a third place finish and so on. After all three rounds of racing are completed the points accumulated by a rider in those rounds are tabulated. The rider with the lowest number of total points gets the first place trophy, the second lowest gets the second place trophy etc.

There is a possibility of a tie using this system, if that happens the tie breaker is the riders finishes in the third round of racing.

An example would be:

1st Round 2nd Round 3rd Round Total

Rider A 1st 3rd 2nd 6 pts

Rider B 3rd 2nd 1st 6 pts

Rider C 2nd 1st 3rd 6 pts

In this scenario Rider B would get the overall 1st place finish due to his 1st place finish in the 3rd round of racing. Rider A would get the overall 2nd place, and Rider C would get the overall 3rd place.

Riders you want to do your best all the time, but as you can see the third round of racing's very important. If you have a little extra something inside you this is the time to us it. It could be the difference between a first and a third place finish.

If the total riders in your class is more than 8 you will have to race a 4th round called a Main Event. This Main Event will have either 7 or 8 riders in it and your finish order in the Main
